Why I Always Shoot Dual Card Slots
I know to most people, I am about to be speaking very passionately about recording your session onto two expensive little pieces of plastic at the same time… but truly, I will never trust one single memory card with your entire wedding or lifestyle session. Not because memory cards fail constantly. They don’t. In fact, most of the time they work perfectly. But “most of the time” is not good enough when it comes to your once in a lifetime moments.
Technology can fail. Cards can corrupt. Files can glitch. It’s rare, but it happens… and if I was only shooting to one card, that means there would be only one copy of your images in existence while they are being taken. If something went wrong, there would be no backup of that moment.
That is simply not a risk I am willing to take with your memories.
Every wedding and every lifestyle session I photograph is shot using dual card slots, which means every single photo I take is recorded onto two memory cards at the exact same time. Two identical copies, created instantly in camera. If one card were ever to fail, the second one has everything safely stored.
Memory cards might just look like tiny pieces of plastic, or be something you don't even think about, but I think clients deserve to know about these things. You deserve to understand how your images are being handled and protected, and you deserve to make informed decisions when choosing who to trust with your wedding day or your family’s milestones.
The moments you trust me to capture are not replaceable. I cannot reshoot your vows. I cannot recreate your baby’s newborn stage. I cannot rewind a proposal. Those moments happen once. So I plan for the what ifs, even if they are unlikely.
Could I shoot on one card and probably be fine? Sure.
But your memories will always deserve more than "probably".
